Master Joe Brown

5th Dan Master Joe Brown is an ex-British serviceman for HM forces. He has an extensive career as a professional bodyguard for VIP's such as Cynthia Rothrock (Hollywood Martial Arts Superstar), World Champion Kickboxer Bill "Superfoot" Wallace and Andra Franett (World Karate Champion). Joe was the Founder and Chief Instructor of British Taekwondo South which was established in 1981. He has taught several national and international champions amongst them are juniors/seniors Jemma Johnson, Aaron Cook and his son Gareth Brown to name but a few.
Master Joe is one of the most experienced coaches in Great Britain having coached at World Olympic selection/qualifying for the 2000 Olympic Games in Croatia, Women's Europa Cup team which won bronze in the team event (for example, Joe Brown has coached current World Champion and Olympic medallist Sarah Stevenson in both finals of the Woman's Europa Cup in Finland and Izmir Turkish International 2001 as a prelude to the Olympic Games and coached Paul Green (Silver Medallist World Championships, Germany 2003). Joe coached Paul to a Gold Medal in the Sardinian Open International in 1998. He also coached all Junior and Senior World Championships since 1995 for BTCB and UK Sport Taekwondo. Joe was the BTF National Team Coach 1985-1994, BTCB Principal National Team Coach from 1994-2002, Regional Centre of Excellence National Team Coach 2002-2006 and the BTCB Combined Services Military Team Coach Great Britain 2005-2008

Gareth Brown
Head Team Coach

Gareth Brown, 3x ex-British under 72 kgs Champion, has been training since he was 4 years old . He attended his first tournament at the age of 7. He was the Junior British Champion in 1997, and competed at the Junior European Championships at the age of 17. In 1998 he represented GB at the Senior European Championships in Greece and in 2000 competed at the World Cup in Lyon, France. Then competed at the World Championships in Jeju, Korea 2001, and was Turkish open (Quarter Finalist) 2002. 2003 represented Team GB at the World Championships, Garmisch, Germany. Other International achievements were, Danish Open ( Bronze Medalist), Millenium Champions (Gold Medalist), Canary Island Invitational (silver medalist), French Open (Bronze medalist), and Quarter Finalist in three US Opens.

Gareth has become both an accomplished Taekwondo athlete and sports instructor.

Gareth is now running 3, 2 hour, Olympic sport Taekwondo sessions a week, Private tuition in his private gym and working as a development coach at the GB TAEKWONDO ACADEMY in manchester. He coached the GB Cadet team at the European Championships this year and will be coaching the GB Junior team at there European Championships this October in Cyprus.

Nik Mahon

He started Taekwondo in 1987 whilst working overseas in the Cayman Islands. In 1989 he joined BTS and as instructor of the organization, he has been running and assisting clubs in and around Southampton area since 1991. A former Police Officer, Nik now lectures Design and Advertising at Southampton Solent University where he also runs an Adult Taekwondo class every Tuesday evenings.

Paul Barker

Paul started in 1999 under Paul Rhymes and Master Brown and is now the latest BTS instructor. He will now handle the club at the Charter Community Sports Centre in Portsmouth.

Sarah Lamb
Sarah Lamb
3rd Dan WTF and BTS tournament trainer,has been training since she was 11 years old. She was the Junior British Light Middle weight Champion in 1999 and has participated as part of the Great Britain Team in the Sardinia Open in 1998 and the Junior European Championships in Cyprus 1999. She also competed in numerous national and international tournaments as part of the BTS Team. She is currently working as a French teacher at Testbourne Community School in Whitchurch.

British Taekwondo South's very own "Sport Injury Therapist and Chief Referee". Janet has been training for BTS for six years. She is a class 2 referee and has been travelling regularly at a national level around the country for different grades of competition.

Janet runs a full time clinic in Poole and also works as a sports therapist for Christchurch Football Club (Wessex League). She is capable of working with all types of sports and treating many injuries,specializing in martial arts and football. The last few years she has worked as a sports therapist treating the special boat service members,marines, and other service personnel.

Master Joe Brown and Gareth Brown highly recommend Janet and her normal consultation fee will be reduced for BTS Members (£30 initial consultation - approx one hour) (£15 -subsequent treatments (approx half hour), group sessions (fee negotiable).
